In my career, I have worked for corporations, I have taken the risk of freelancing, and subsequently I have become an entrepreneur. Each form of operating in a competitive market has both its advantages and disadvantages. In many cases, what we image as an ideal work for ourselves is far from reality. We also often complain a little too much about the corporate order while accepting what the corporation gives us as a hygiene factor, i.e. a standard.

/…/ ‘As rightly noted by a manager, a corporation is a series of systems, procedures, and job interdependencies which – when joined together – facilitate management of the company in a way which ensures a certain extent of business stability and predictability. Company interests are important for the corporation and they are the utmost priority. A motto which is often cited by corporate staff reads as follows: ‘Death (dismissal) keeps no calendar’. When the market is unstable, the corporation will reduce posts in order to survive. A small company will see an individual, which – contrary to what might seem – does not mean that in this situation the small company will take a different decision to the corporation. As somebody who is closely linked to aviation, I would like to cite an extremely fitting comparison offered by a corporate manager: ’Working for a corporation to a certain extent reminds of the behavior of a passenger plane pilot whose indisputable duty is to act according to clearly defined procedures. There is no space for improvisation, experiments or romantic thinking there. Even if they wanted to very much, the pilot will not soar towards the Sun. Therefore, they will either learn to live with it or leave the airline and become a pilot in a group of acrobats’. This quotation very visibly depicts doubts which are felt by candidates who ponder over the choice of future professional direction.’
